It's not all tutus, tiaras, and Trader Sam's. Over the past six years, the runDisney brand has been all that and more; camaraderie, sunsets over Cars Land and World Showcase, and many, many a celebratory dinner. See the world! The side effect (even if unintended) of same? Fitness. My physical therapist self kinda knew this all along, but to be honest it was a backdrop to the magic and medals in my timeline. Until now... The invisible side effect of my twenty half marathons and umpteen 5Ks? Core strength. My oh my, that came in … [Read more...]
Blogger Bash 2017 | A Special Needs Playland
The swag is here, and I am re-living my two-day romp with Blogger Bash 2017 (@BloggerBashNYC). As a first-timer and elder blogger, I will admit hesitancy attending a conference I feared might have few meaningful take-aways. With each item I unboxed from the Toy Insider, I was reminded of how wrong I was; special needs-friendly the event and its sponsors were. She has been lecturing to autism parents for decades, providing lessons that parents might find valuable, and this parent had heard her speak in the 1990s. Many know Temple from the HBO movie that depicts her remarkable life. To those of us personally touched by autism, she literally wrote the book; diagnosed with "infant schizophrenia" in the 1940s, today she is a … [Read more...]
LEGOLAND Florida Kicks Off Autism Awareness Month
I made my first trip to LEGOLAND Florida Resort last March, and I can't tell you how impressed I was; this clean, colorful, kid-centric haven was so much more than I expected. From its very manageable size, to its adorably-themed Lands (DUPLO Valley for small fries and LEGO NINJAGO World for those ninjas-in-training, for example), to the onsite, "5-Gazillion Star" LEGOLAND Hotel, this resort truly feels like it was "built for kids." ALL kids. Every shape, size, age, and ability. If you have followed by blog, you might know I have a deep … [Read more...]
