Late Night Host Jimmy Kimmel Joins 12th Annual St. Jude Thanks and Giving® Campaign

November 23, 2015 By D Marie 2 Comments

I'm giving thanks.  This past year, I came to know Mary Elizabeth.  I'm grateful to pal Julie from Run Walk Repeat for making the virtual introduction to this angelic soul.  "ME"  was treated at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, and her mom Mandi shared her daily wins and losses with us on Facebook.  Though ME lost her battle this past September, for me she will always be the face of bravery, faith, and hope.  I had led fundraising for St. Jude prior to "knowing" ME, and will do so … [Read more...]

Hot LA | Jeff Galloway Tips for Running in the Heat

August 4, 2015 By D Marie 1 Comment

Hot off the heels of working the Special Olympics World Games Los Angeles 2015, I'm still walking on air; think white lightning.  Inspiration flowed despite the local temperatures that hovered near 100 degrees.  Caught up in the energy that oozed from the athletes (many of them wearing their newly acquired New Balance runDisney running shoes) I could not keep still.  Unfortunately, my daily free time was limited to one-half hour block during the midday period.  Not to be denied, I donned my best Minnie racers and hit … [Read more...]

The Special Olympics Flame of Hope Has Arrived!

May 19, 2015 By D Marie Leave a Comment

The "Dignity Revolution" is alive in the Special Olympics Flame of Hope and as of this afternoon, it flickers on US soil. Athens, Greece June 2011 My family witnessed the Flame of Hope light the Special Olympics cauldron in Athens, Greece at the last Special Olympics World Games in 2011.  Though we are ecstatic to be once again present when the flame arrives in Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum this July, I have the honor of transporting it there!!!  On the afternoon of June 3rd, I will run through my hometown of Flushing, New … [Read more...]
