I will admit, it took my about 2 years of Run Walk Run before I experimented with sprints and speed workouts. I AM STILL NOT FAST by any stretch of the imagination, but I absolutely found benefit from this form of training; it "spiced" things up and did make my long runs seem easier. I have written about the use of a treadmill and/or track to perform this "speed play" in my Top PT Tips series. However, these recent strategies from Olympian Jeff Galloway look like so much FUN, I do believe I will be accelerating and gliding all … [Read more...]
Completing a Challenge Race with Jeff Galloway’s Run Walk Run Method
Never say never. Even as an oldster, I made the mistake of uttering "I could never do a back-to-back endurance race." Those Goofy and then Dopey folks that started the craze were my idols, but not my running role models; NOT for me. Then came the Dumbo Double Dare. And then the Glass Slipper Challenge. And the Rebel Challenge, Pixie Dust Challenge, Infinity Gauntlet Challenge... you get the idea. How much resistance can one runDisney fan mount? I'm only human! So I finally bit at the inaugural Star Wars … [Read more...]
Season of the Force Launches Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend into Hyperspace
We go for the storytelling; the Magic that envelops us once surrounded by the Disney gates. And so, that magic for Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend runners is called the Force. While it was true at last year's inaugural event, it was certainly awakened this year. Racers were immersed in the FIRST ORDER and the RESISTANCE in 2016. Anabella Hotel Review | My Foray into Disneyland Good Neighbor Hotels
Welcome to this month's Blogorail Blue Loop. Today we are reviewing the official Disneyland hotels and some of Disneyland's Good Neighbor hotels. I was scared. Really. I have never stayed in a Disney Parks off-property resort. Never ever in 44 years. But runDisney is an expensive habit, and paying the kids' college tuition really does take precedence over an enchanted room in my Disneyland race weekend default digs, the Disneyland Hotel. I was quoted a rate at a Good Neighbor Hotel that was less than half of … [Read more...]
Proof that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is Out of this World
Calling all Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend warriors, there's still time to see it again. While the cosmic storm swirling around Star Wars: The Force Awakens intensifies, those of us training, packing and dreaming about next week's races are being whipped into a "Finn" frenzy. In fact, I'm considering taking book for the over and under on the number of Rey running costumes covering the course. (I know this for certain, because the search for my own Rey outfit yielded "sold out" on every website I could find.) Last year's … [Read more...]
