Cast Member For a Day

January 3, 2013 By D Marie 6 Comments

Welcome to the first stop aboard Magical Blogorail Yellow.  Enjoy the ride as we share with you what we would be if we could be a Disney cast member for a day. Oh, the possibilities!  The "what ifs" are endless.  If I had any artistic sensibility, I would love to work for Disney Floral & Gifts- talk about spreading some serious pixie dust!  But since I have no such talents, I must go back to the "drawing board".  How about playing a princess for a day? Well, I don't believe Disney has any, er, … [Read more...]

Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend- A Pictorial Overview

January 2, 2013 By D Marie 20 Comments

The month of January brings the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend  to Orlando, and this year it comes with an extra dose of fanfare.  Twenty years have passed since the first "Mickey Marathon", and it's time to celebrate!  This year, runDisney expects its largest overall field to date; over 26,000 runners will traverse the 26.2 miles through all four parks, and for the first time includes Walt Disney World Speedway and ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex (with a promised "20 Mile Spectacular" in Champion Stadium). … [Read more...]

Operation United Hearts~ Giveaway

December 15, 2012 By D Marie 2 Comments

Recent events- Hurricane Sandy and the Sandy Hook School shootings- are proof that Americans need to care more deeply for one another.  Though I normally keep politics out of my blog, and I am an avowed compassionate Conservative, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's concept that It Takes a Village to raise our children rings with urgency today.  "Am I my brother's keeper?'  You bet.  How else will we, members of our village, look ourselves in the mirror? Enter Operation United Hearts; a group of bloggers helping a … [Read more...]

Victorian Christmas Traditions at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

December 11, 2012 By D Marie 11 Comments

The famed, prosperous Victorian Era (1837- 1901) coincides with the rule of Queen Victoria in Britain.  Elaborately decorated Christmas fir trees, Christmas cards, gingerbread decorations, ropes and ropes of evergreen garland, the Christmas turkey, toys in the stockings...  Did you know that these beloved Holiday traditions began with Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in the early 19th century?  The Prince brought his German traditions to Windsor Castle, and the Queen (whose mother was also German) popularized these family-centric … [Read more...]

My Favorite Holiday “Plus” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

December 6, 2012 By D Marie 11 Comments

Walt Disney was famous for taking a good thing and "plussing" it; or kicking it up a notch, so to speak.  When I first started visiting  Walt Disney World in the early 1970's, most people chose to vacation in Orlando during the pleasantly warm winter months or during their own summer vacation.  Spending Christmas at Walt Disney World was virtually unheard of; until, that is, the "plussers" consciously made Disney Parks a holiday destination.  From classic Disney Resort decorations, to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas … [Read more...]
