Packing for a Destination Race

November 9, 2013 By D Marie 34 Comments

What can I say?  This is what immediately came to mind when I unpacked my American Tourister COLORA 20″ Spinner. It’s Tinker Bell green!  And what better place to showcase my new luggage than a trip cross country for January’s Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend!!  I’ve long wondered how folks travel without multiple (and now costly) bags in tow.  As every runner knows, you never check your race gear; just in case.  Would I be able to pack my many necessities into one bag?  I set out to put this pixie to the test…

With roomy dimensions (20″ x 14.5″ x 8.5″), it was wider and deeper than my old bag, and Tink seemed comfy enough in the fully lined interior.  Now to add the runner’s essentials:

runDisney limited edition running shoes and travel foam roller- check!
Must haves (for me that’s my KT Tape, Biofreeze, Cliff Bars and Sport Beans) fit in the provided and detachable zippered plastic bag:
The extra large pocket is perfect for my iFitness Belt, towel, visor and ITB strap.
A smaller compartment perfectly accommodates running socks and underwear, and 3 days of street clothes are held in place with cross straps.
Suit up!
Finally the ultimate test; will the tutu fit?!
Everything fit, and with room to spare.  This American Tourister COLORA weighs in at just 8 pounds, so I have no worry about getting the luggage into the airplane’s overhead compartment.  But we’re not done yet.  I normally like to squeeze the items I will need during a flight in my carry on’s outside pockets for easy access.  The COLORA has 2 large exterior pockets:
My iPad and Jeff Galloway tome fit with ample room for healthy snacks.
Now that I’m packed, I’m ready to roll!  Which I can do with ease thanks to the sleek spinner wheels (which allow for 360 degree, zero effort spinning), and retractable handle (it telescopes like butter).  Other than my half marathon, I see only one trial left:
John F. Kennedy International Airport!
Luckily, I’ll travel with peace of mind, knowing that my American Tourister comes with a 10 Year Warranty.  You too can Pack More Fun for your next run; visit the American Tourister website and inspect the other colors and sizes this zippy line offers.  (And all orders over $99 ship for FREE.)  You may not PR your next destination race, but you sure will arrive there in the right frame of mind..  A fun run indeed!!

There is just so much to love about this post, but I think my favorites are the first and last pictures. The way your medal looks hanging off the bag is so fun – and I love adore this picture of you at the airport (I have a particular fondness for JFK since my mom and I fly out of there to go get Ian!) I'm so glad to know that this bag is fit for a Disney runner!

Heidi, thanks for sharing your special connection to this post! (I'm thinking of using my Tinker Bell Half Marathon medal as a luggage tag; what do you think??)

What a creative post! I love all the running gear you can pack. My go to runner's tool is "The Stick" for after a race! I wonder if that would fit in?! 😉

You know as well as I do that if that luggage survives JFK it will survive ANYTHING! Great review.

I have to admit Deb, the Inaugural Tinker Bell Half Marathon was my first half marathon, so I'm partial to all things that remind me of that day. The COLOR green is my perfect match!

What a great review, Donna! I'm sorry to say that I never thought of the color as "Tinker Bell Green" — but you are absolutely right, that's exactly what it is! Bye Bye Lime Green, hello Tinker Bell Green!

Perhaps it is not as manly as "Lime Green", but my inner pixie couldn't resist!!! 😉

What a great review and packing job. My luggage looks nothing like this, it more resembles the pile after you first pull your clothes from the drying. Just call me the most wrinkled person at Disney 🙂
