With another grand birthday on the horizon, we have an opportunity to look back; not to pine for the past, but to develop that new appreciation described below. On April 22nd, 2013,
Disney’s Animal Kingdom turns 15; and my, how the park has “evolved”!!
On April 7th, please join Beth Doda and me for 15 Days to 15 Years; 1998 and Safari Mike (@JamboEveryone) will lead the pack!
Fabulous April shots!! Peter was just asking me what Harambe meant. Now I can have him look right here and read all about Animal Kingdom in your new series. It's incredible that it's been 15 years! Time flies!
So glad this came in handy! I've learned more Swahili from Disney than from my adult ed class!! Thanks Deb.
So cool! I wish I had gotten to visit AK when some of this was still there. I can't believe how much it's changed.
15 years in the blink of an eye- luckily, most of the change has been for the good!
This is great- thanks so much for sharing this map! I love seeing how things have changed over the years…
Me too KJ; I can't believe how much I had forgotten!
Wow! This brings back memories. I still remember our first trip to AK in August of '98. I still miss that boat ride they used to have and spending over an hour taking pics of the tree of life. Thanks for sharing!

Lisa, my boys still talk about "the cruise" all the time! I hope they do make good use of that waterway in the future.
I remember going to Animal Kingdom when it first opened. Doesn't seem like it's been 15 years already!
It does seem like yesterday… until I see the photos of my "babies"!!
I second Frontierland Station. I cannot cannot believe that it's been 15 years. We went the first year it opened too and it's crazy to think how much it has changed and hasn't… if you think about it. 🙂 Can't wait to see this series progress!
Me too Estelle- you are always so supportive!!!
I remember our first visit to Animal Kingdom in spring of 1999. We rode the Discovery River Boats and then left the park. We hated it. Not so now. I love our visits to Animal Kingdom. Can't say I miss that boat ride though.
Ha! Do you remember the "Disney Radio" variation?! They need to get the Imagineers to properly retool "the cruise"…
It's sad that AK is 15 years old and we haven't visited yet. We hope to visit soon and I'm glad I'll be there when most of the good changes have taken place. Great to know the Tree of Life is still there though.
It will be all the sweeter when you do make it to this park Mary!!
Wow, these are great Didi. A fun walk down memory lane…

Thanks Suz. As I often say, the benefit of getting old is that you have so much to look back on; my memory lane is now a full interstate!!
This is awesome! I remember them building it; I couldn't wait! :]
Yes Onna- I remember thinking that the huge steel structure above the horizon would never be anything attractive; hello Tree of Life!!
