“it’s a small world”

August 4, 2011 By D Marie 16 Comments

Our heritage and ideals, our codes and standards- the things we live by and teach our children- are preserved or diminished by how freely we exchange ideas and feelings.
–  Walter Elias Disney

As my profile reads:
” It’s a small World.  After all, Walt knew that 25 years before the discovery of the World Wide Web.  Today, building community with each other and our networks is more meaningful than ever.”

Perhaps for some, it’s too small.  I suppose rumor, gossip and innuendo spread quickly in a small room.  Walt’s quote on integrity addresses our better angels.  The ease at which the internet allows for free exchange and sharing of ourselves should propagate our values and best standards. Call me Pollyanna, but in my 4 months of blogging, I have not personally witnessed anything but the Disney spirit amongst my fellow bloggers.  In general, I believe they bring back pixie dust from their vacations and attempt to spread it as far as possible through their cyberspace words.  For me, the Disney blogging community is an extension of the Parks and that “this is how the rest of the world should be” experience.

Because I am a new blogger, I do attempt to fact and brand check with every post.  I don’t always get it right, but I know it’s important.   I have never used a photo on my blog that was not my own.  It’s challenging, but I can sleep better at night!  I have been contacted by representatives asking to buy space on :DIStherapy.  After I write back that I would have to endorse and approve the product first, I never hear back from the reps!!  I wouldn’t have it any other way.  My thoughts and my words are mine alone- even if they bore you to tears.

I cherish the support and mentoring that so many in the Disney community have given me; Lisa has certainly led and eldered with generosity.  I gladly take the Pledge to live by Walt’s standards.

There’s so much that we share
That it’s time we’re aware…
