Hot LA | Jeff Galloway Tips for Running in the Heat

August 4, 2015 By D Marie 1 Comment

Hot off the heels of working the Special Olympics World Games Los Angeles 2015, I'm still walking on air; think white lightning.  Inspiration flowed despite the local temperatures that hovered near 100 degrees.  Caught up in the energy that oozed from the athletes (many of them wearing their newly acquired New Balance runDisney running shoes) I could not keep still.  Unfortunately, my daily free time was limited to one-half hour block during the midday period.  Not to be denied, I donned my best Minnie racers and hit … [Read more...]

My Time with the Flame | Illumination in The Opening Ceremony of the 2015 Special Olympics World Games

July 26, 2015 By D Marie 2 Comments

I admit, I refer to it as "my flame."  Yes, I was privileged to be one of this summer's Unified Relay Across America Torch Bearers.  Though by far one of the most thrilling moments I've lived, while running the Flame of Hope through the streets of Astoria, Queens I realized this open fire seemed a casual curiosity to those going about the business of shopping, walking from work and wheeling the clothes to the laundromat.  (Have I mentioned how heavy and REAL that torch was?  I almost lit my hair on fire. … [Read more...]

runDisney Walt Disney World VS Disneyland

July 20, 2015 By D Marie 10 Comments

Welcome to this month's Blogorail Orange Loop. Today we are comparing Walt Disney World and Disneyland. East meets West!  The runDisney Coast to Coast Challenge and new race announcements have been propelling runDisney racers to rack up those frequent flier miles and fend off jet lag.  Though the brand may be the same, the Orlando and Anaheim runDisney experiences are not.  But have no fear- the pixie dust flies on both coasts!!  In 2015, the runDisney Walt Disney World VS. Disneyland run-off looks something like … [Read more...]

When runner Robert Wang recently contacted me about his upcoming "July 4th Tribute to Runners" I was thrilled.  And honored.  And what?  And still, me, a runner??? Special Olympics Unified Relay Across America I am so proud to represent Special Olympics and the beautiful state of Vermont in his finished masterpiece.  God bless our America; where we are free to run and carry a torch of many kinds.  Please check out Robert's wonderful video- you may recognize many of your runDisney pals! For my Tuesdays on the … [Read more...]

The Run Walk Run Method Gets More Magical | Jeff Galloway’s New Strategy

June 20, 2015 By D Marie 4 Comments

My magic number is 30.  It was when I started running four years ago and it still is.  Despite my advanced age and static fitness level, I have been able to shave fifty minutes off my half marathon time in that period.  Very simply, the only factor in that success is Jeff Galloway's Run Walk Run method  (Imagine if I actually did his training program justice?!)  Not only is Jeff's method result-driven, it is common sense.  For decades, I would attempt to get my patients to throttle back at some point … [Read more...]
