49 Years of Disney Connections

April 8, 2013 By D Marie 8 Comments

Focused on the Magic

My blog turned 2 this past April Fool’s Day (what can I say?), and this original post was published on April 7th of 2011.  How fitting that I am reposting for today’s hop, changing the title from 47 years to 49, and now have the honor of writing FOR one of my inspirations- The Magical Blogorail!  You just never know where life will take you, so always appreciate and value the ride.  Por favor, mantenganse alejado de las puertas…

Begin at the beginning…. I’m so very excited to join the Disney Blog Hop this particular week, because the theme calls to the very reason I began blogging- my Disney connections, my Walt ‘roots”.  If you spotted my Wordless Wednesday item from yesterday, “Proof That Disney Memories DO Last a Lifetime…” you can guess how long and deep those roots truly are.  My father worked at the 1964 World’s Fair, and my family received a sneak peak at the pavilions before the Fair opened; it’s a small world, Progressland, Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln, and the Great Skyway sowed the seeds for a lifetime love affair.  We read, studied and watched Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color weekly TV series to learn more about the fabled “Florida Project”.  What a surprise!  Our first trip to Walt Disney World was in the Park’s ninth month, and we have averaged one trip every year since.  Each family rite of passage has had Walt Disney World as its backdrop.

That’s me in August of 1972- boy, those Mickey balloons have come a long way…

Fast forward to the fall of 2009, when first I learned of Disney blogs during that year’s Walt Disney World Moms Panel Search.

I was so intrigued by their content that I’ve been a fan ever since:
·         ZannaLand
·         the Disney Driven Life  (After all, I am  NDM #126.)
.   AllEars.Net
Not only have the number and quality of Disney blogs exploded, but they now are networked in a completely professional way!  My favorites of these are:
·         WDW Fan Zone
·         The Magical Blogorail
All of these blogs have inspired me to document my own personal and lengthy Disney history, and create :DIStherapy.  Leave it to the Disney community to build such lasting connections.
Thank you Disney bloggers!

(And, to my point, thank you Babes in Disneyland for sponsoring the Disney Blog Hop :D)

Love the picture of you in 72, it sure does bring back memories. That is so cool that your Dad worked the World's Fair. I can't think of a better job than that 😉

I agree Diane. At the time, he got the position at the American Pavilion because his 'real job", draftsman at Sperry Co, was in limbo because of a strike. I'm not sure how he felt about it, but it was thrilling for us!!!

I love this. It's so interesting to see how we are all brought together by different experiences but one mouse! 🙂

I am so glad that I have gotten to know you better and had the wonderful opportunity to meet you in person. You have inspired me more than you know and I can't wait to finish my first Disney 5K this fall.
