30 Days to 30 Years- 1993

September 12, 2012 By D Marie 2 Comments

Welcome back, one and all, to our 30 day countdown to Epcot’s 30th Anniversary.  My co-host, Beth (Pursuing the Magic and The Magical Blogorail) and I are so appreciative of our authors, and all who stop in daily to get a dose of magical nostalgia!  Today’s guest blogger, Annie from Walt Disney World- Travel , will take us back to 1993; and the magical beginning of a Disney fan favorite.

Epcot 1993 – Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival

Although 1993 marked the last year the park would be called
Epcot Center, it also marked the beginning of something very beautiful indeed,
the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival. It only makes sense that Epcot, a place of forward
thinking and utopian ideals, would create something as fabulous as the Flower & Garden Festival.

In Walt Disney’s original EPCOT designs, gardens and parks
played the crucial function of general beautification as well as recreational
environments. Experimental Prototype
Community of Tomorrow
never developed in the manner that Walt had
anticipated, but the Flower and Garden Festivals definitely fulfill the role of
beautification and recreation.

People attend the Epcot International Flower and Garden
Festival in order to be uplifted and enlightened. The Disney character based
topiaries uplift the spirit while the educational gardening information about
the creation and maintenance of such beautiful grounds enlighten the mind.

Epcot’s International Flower & Garden Festival has become
a true Disney Celebration with concert series, special activities for kids, TV
personalities, special displays, etc. Every year holds a new adventure for
those who visit Epcot from early March to mid May.

Thank you Annie!  Be sure to visit her blog for “Information, tips and fun facts that help everyone make the most of every Walt Disney World travel experience.”

And tomorrow’s “special” experience will feature 1994 and Kathleen Kelly from The Many Adventures of a Disney-Lovin’ Spectrum Mom!

Flower & Garden is my favorite time to be at WDW! It's a beautiful time to enjoy Epcot of course…but it also coincides with Mothers Day and the anniversary of the first time I drove to WDW with my kids all on my own. Pretty significant point in my life timeline.

Thank you Annie! I particularly love how you've linked Walt's original EPCOT vision to the education and beautification that the International Flower & Garden Festival delivers. Brilliant!
