15 Days to 15 Years- 2007

April 16, 2013 By D Marie 3 Comments

Welcome back to 15 Days to 15 Years; a blogger countdown hosted by Beth and myself to commemorate the upcoming 15th Anniversary of Disney’s Animal Kingdom.  Today, Mary @CapMagicalMem shares a tasty tale from the year 2007.

Hello everyone, and welcome to the year 2007 in our series, 15 Days to 15 Years. This special series is meant to countdown each year on our way to celebrate Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park’s 15th anniversary on April 22nd, 2013! I have the distinct honor in writing about the year 2007.

The biggest changes to the Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park in 2007 centered around two new dining options.

The first was the relocation of a character breakfast hosted by Donald. Out was Donald’s Restaurantosaurus in Dinoland and in was Donald’s Safari Breakfast (and lunch) at Tusker House in Africa. The new breakfast includes Donald, Mickey, Daisy, and Goofy all in their African Safari attire. The menu also reflects it’s African location along with basic American favorites. To this day Tusker House is one of our favorite character meals and we love to go there before park opening and then head directly to Kilimanjaro Safari afterwards.

The second is one of the best names restaurants EVER, the Yak & Yeti™ Restaurant and counter service in Asia. This Pan-Asian cuisine restaurant was a needed addition to the park and provided food options over near Everest. My husband and I had the privilege of eating there the 2nd day it was open. It is a well themed restaurant and if you can score a window seat during the parade it is a spectacular view.

For me this was a big year as it was when my husband and I started dating seriously and we traveled with my Brother and Sister-In-Law for the first time together. It was a ‘getting to know you’ trip that has great memories for me. It was the year of a million dreams and one of mine came true that year when we got engaged at Walt Disney World.

One of my favorite photos from this year and it the one of us all waiting out a rain storm at the Animal Kingdom. You have to love those August showers!

I hope you enjoyed this trip back to 2007.

Mary, I was at Walt Disney World in August 2007 also! It was the first time that we ever stayed on property at WDW, and we ate at Restaurantasauraus! We must have been lucky to get there right before the switchover to Tusker House because it was a character breakfast when we went. Wouldn't it have been funny if we had seen one another and didn't know it?! 🙂

Great memories, thanks for sharing them and allowing me to remember some of mine at the same time!

Thank you for sharing your personal Disney love story! Though my family misses Restaurantasauraus (such great memories), Yak & Yeti is one of our absolute favorites(oh, those lettuce cups…). As Mike said, thank you for the gift of sharing Mary!
