Mickey Mouse Multi-Generational Disney Side @Home Celebration Menu

February 28, 2015 By D Marie 4 Comments

Food, glorious food.  Especially when it comes in black, red and yellow and features mouse ears.  I based my Mickey Mouse Multi-Generational Disney Side @Home Celebration menu choices on my mom’s favorites; after all, she is the guest of honor and our very own Steamboat Willie.

**  I received free products from Disney Parks and Mom Select to host these Disney Side @Home Celebrations.  My thoughts (and imagination) are my own!

Snacks

My mom’s absolute favorite snack?  Jelly beans!  Luckily, Jelly Belly sells Mickey Mouse Jelly Beans in the famous black, red and yellow tones.  They offer large bags, 2.8 ounce and 1 ounce individual gift bags.  I served the beans and included the smaller bags as party favors.

Oreos are always on hand in my mom’s pantry, so they, too, needed a place on our table.  Of course, no plain black cookie would do.  The Disneyfied version uses Oreos, Oreo Minis, red and black (not brown) melting chocolate, and squeezable vanilla icing.  As I’ve said in previous posts, my preferred method of melting chocolate is in the microwave; use 30 second intervals at half power and stir each time.  (Never overheat your chocolate!)  Dip half the Oreo in melted red chocolate and place on waxed paper to set.  Attach your “ears” (Oreo Minis) with melted black chocolate and set.  Add 2 dollops of white frosting for your buttons and get ready to smile!

Pretzels are another crowd pleaser and a natural choice for our Disney Side gathering.  Use a similar “formula” to give them Mickey Mouse appeal.  Follow the same process as above and dip away.

Dinner
After all that snacking, we really needed to serve some food with substance.  The main event was another of my mom’s best-loved foods; Salmon Teriyaki.  The salmon came from my husband’s restaurant and the marinade was courtesy of Soy Vay Veri Veri Teriyaki Marinade & Sauce.  Sauteed spinach with garlic and brown rice with red peppers rounded out the meal nicely.  BUT, young and old alike thought the individual Mickey Mouse pizzas stole the show!  I simply used refrigerated biscuit dough (small-sized biscuit cutters made perfectly proportioned “ears”), my homemade tomato sauce (which my mom raves about) and shredded mozzarella.  Bake on a cookie sheet for 15-18 minutes in a 350-degree oven and presto!

Dessert
My mom is a cupcake queen, so there was no question that I would use my provided Duff Goldman Tie-Dye Premium Cake Mix and customize her cakes.  To keep the party’s colorscape uniform, I choose the yellow and red dyes and separated the batter into 2 sections.  Each yellow and red cake was frosted with my vanilla icing and topped with plastic Mickey Mouse picks or 2 Oreo Mini “ears.”  Oh, boy!  What a hit!

If you have watched my Mickey Mouse Mimosa Tutorial, you have seen my technique for trimming and dipping Mickey Mouse Strawberries.  I used them as the perfect Disney Side garnish for our cocktails and mocktails, but I served a big bowl of them post-dessert as well.

Stay tuned for a full party wrap-up coming soon.  For now, I’ll say that no one went hungry and my son and husband enjoyed leftovers for a week.  This Mickey Mouse party menu proves that food with mouse ears always tastes better!!!

I so appreciate my many sources of Pinterest inspiration; you can find them on this Disney Side Multi-Generational Mickey Mouse Party Board.  A very special thanks to Maria, Leanne, Jamie, and Disney Parks for sprinkling some pixie dust my way and allowing me to host my own Disney Side @Home Celebration this year!

This is fabulous! How creative Didi. I am a huge fan of Jelly Belly Jelly Beans. Where can I find them? I also watched your great tutorial on how to make the mimosa. Is there really such a thing as Yellow Juice or is it just a yellow version of orange juice? Perhaps pineapple juice would work too? And on a side note, your dining room chairs are beautiful! -M

Oh my, there's a Jelly Belly for every occasion Meranda. 😀 http://www.jellybelly.com/mickey-mouse-jelly-beans-7-5-oz-gift-bag/p/96872 Most of the fresh-squeezed I get just seems to be more yellow than orange, so I took artistic liberty! I bet pineapple would work really well too; it would just be sweeter. Thanks for all!
