Blogging to Go the DIStance #UBP11

April 1, 2011 By D Marie 13 Comments

Yup- I’m on the other side of 50; a time to take stock and redirect. Using the roller coaster analogy, I am potentially on the other side of the hill.  My mind is immediately drawn to my first serious coaster ride- the Cyclone in Coney Island.  Essentially, the highlight of the ride is the slow ascent up the initial 85 foot hill.  At the precipice of this climb is a post that reads “stay seated”.  Gulp.  The steep plunge that follows is a 60 mph drop, and after that, anticlimatic bumps.  Double gulp.  Surely the best that life has to offer is not behind me on that hill.  I’m hoping my next 50 years more closely mirror the Expedition Everest attraction at Walt Disney World; after reaching the top of the mountain, you are thrust backward, in darkness, only to change direction once again, looping twice with twists and turns along the way.   Life should continue to be a wild ride!
This blog will pull the threads of my journey “til now together- a means to share my experiences and loves, build a like-minded community and steel myself for the next drop.  Thanks for the therapy!

I think you described it so well!! I will be turning 40 this year (June) so I feel like I am at the top of the hill peering over the edge. Wanting to zoom ahead to see what is waiting, but also wishing now I hadn't wanted so much for the hill climb to go by faster. I am also following on GFC! Happy UBP11!

Hi, I popped over from the 5 Minutes for Mom Ultimate Blog Party 2011. I'm another baby boomer in the mid-50s writing about the multigenerational Sandwich Generation – caring for elderly parents while babysitting grandchildren. I enjoyed the visit.

Welcome to the blogosphere D Marie! I'm almost over the crest of 50, turning 48 this year. But I'm hoping my life is more like the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover. I've had enough drama and adventure and would prefer a slower, safer ride…but still a great view and fun time!
    Happy blogging!!

Hi! Nice to meet another special needs mom via the UBP! I have a 3-1/2 yr old son with Down syndrome and a "typical" 11-month old daughter. Looking forward to following you on your journey. Happy blogging! I hope you can come by my blog when you get a chance.
