Celebrate the Chaos with “Moms’ Night Out”

May 5, 2014 By D Marie 16 Comments

“Someday you’ll thank me for this.”  Just in time for Mother’s Day, Moms’ Night Out is a feel-good, values-based comedy based on… chaos!  Or motherhood.  Both can be beautiful, and frustrating and funny- once you stand back.  I was fortunate to do just that at a pre-screening of this soon to released movie from TriStar Pictures, and came away impressed.  Impressed mainly because this movie is also bold enough to be strongly faith-laced.  AND because its main character is a blogger!!  One of my favorite scenes goes something like this:  Main character Allyson, (Sarah Drew), types “Yesterday I had four blog followers, today I have three…”  Does this gain the attention of social media buffs or what??  The comedy plays out as you begin to see YOUR life played out on the big screen.

Thanks to Mom Select, I was fortunate to attend this private screening in February, and got to share the chuckles with fellow blogger Lisa from Home is Where the Mouse Is.  We had an unofficial moms’ night out!!

What strikes me so markedly is the grass roots feeling of this film; it seems as though it was produced and released as a labor of love amongst the cast and developers.  Why?  It glorifies family, its imperfections, and ultimately has a moral and God-driven message.  You read that correctly.  What courage!!

Actors and Producers Patricia Heaton and David Hunt address the preview audience.

Everyone’s favorite, Sean Astin, plays a flawed but loving husband; a dear!  But in my mind, it is Trace Adkins that steals the show.  He glides from naughty boy to hero to philosopher artfully and gracefully.  (Sadly, he does NOT sing, but his message is delivered via another medium.)

                                                                                                 Smile alert

Get your pre-game on by joining the MOMS’ NIGHT OUT Twitter Party with host @MomTalkRadio, (Maria Bailey, founder of Mom Select); 5 Fandango gift cards will be given away- how perfect!  Get your Twitter fingers ready, because the party begins at 7 pm EST today, (May 6th) at #MNOMovie.

On May 8th, have your hubby mind the kids for a few precious hours celebrate National Mom’s Night Out, and on May 9th, grab the girlies and go see Moms’ Night Out.  Forget Mother’s Day, how about a Mother’s Week??

Seriously, “what could go wrong”??!

That's what I've been told Meranda. (I know, usually you can go to an opening on a Thursday or Friday night.) The theaters showing the movie may also be more limited than usual. It got an 89% on Rotten Tomato!!

It was so touching, wasn't it Lynn? I smiled through my tears. I wanted to give the actors a great big hug when it was over. 😀

Well that sounds pretty cool too Julie- I wish there were more mom's night out events when I was a young (er) mom. There should be an official motherhood sorority!!

I believe this will be the final weekend it will show in theaters Lin. If not, I bet there will be more than a few DVD giveaways when it's released!

It sounds like you had a lot of fun at your "Moms' Night Out" preview. I don't think this movie has gotten the press it deserves. It looks wonderful!

You are exactly right Cindy- it is a homegrown production, without major studio backing. I believe they are hoping to start a movement; if this movie is successful, there will be more faith-based films to follow. Hope!!
