The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler Thriller

September 16, 2014 By D Marie 8 Comments

Join the countDOWN to The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler .  On Saturday, October 4th, 2014 thrill seekers will run through the fifth dimension under the cover of darkness.  Beginning at 10 p.m., runners will follow this supernatural course from Disney’s Hollywood Studios, towards Disney’s Animal Kingdom, through Champion Stadium at ESPN Wide World of Sports, and then enter Disney’s Hollywood Studios for the chilling race finale.

I have had the honor to both volunteer and run for The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler Celebratory Charity, Autism Speaks.  If you spot hordes of colorful jigsaw singlets on the course (or riding The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror during the Disney Villains Hollywood Bash) you’ll know why.

The haunting commences as you cross the starting line; many of the Disney Characters found during Disney Happy Haunted 5K Trail Run are lurking in the 10 miles of shadows.  Spooky details hang in the trees, in the woods, and even above you…

Watch the web!

After spending many miles on Osceola Parkway, ESPN Wide World of Sports is not only a welcome sight, but your joints will appreciate the segue to sand, grass, and track surfaces.  (This year, runDisney promises a “series of four gentle slopes dotting the course” will “elevate the fun.”  I’m intrigued!!)

The true entertainment begins when you enter Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

My posse wanted to call “ACTION” as we entered Lights, Motors, Action Extreme Stunt Show and we saw our mugs on the giant screen.  What a perfect way to bring out the Hollywood ham in every runner!

After a sprint down the oh-so-familiar New York Street, it’s time for the star of the show.  Running past The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at the stroke of midnight is ghoulish indeed.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Halloween, nighttime race trio is a metaphysical mix.  It is certainly not your typical runDisney experience, and not for the faint of heart.  (Especially if the temperature and humidity are as sinister as they have been the past two years.)  This race is 10 miles of guilty pleasure- if you dare!

We are excited to run this race for the first time. The course does not look too thrilling, but hopefully the characters will keep us entertained. Do you wear headphones during this night race?

I'm excited for you!! I am in the great minority, but I never run with music. (It's a zen thing.) HOWEVER, with the great percentage of race time spent on the highway, this might be the perfect event to try it out. Thanks for the tip!

But Kristen, it's "just" 10 miles! (I find the post-race parties are tremendous motivators too. :D) Good luck- I know you'll be great!!

Meranda- you're a pro! This one's easy peasy, unless the weather once again misbehaves. I'm hoping your ITB treats you kindly, and I can't wait to hear how you like the course. Sadly, I'm sitting this year out, so I'll be watching your blog for updates!!
