If you have read my review of this site’s predecessor, Fulton’s Crab House, you know that this spot was a family favorite since its first days as the Empress Lilly. While the location is the same, everything else has changed. Even the views…
Located in what is now The Landing in Disney Springs, Paddlefish, a restaurant framed with a paddle boat has been completely renovated. Gone are the dark wood and floors (but, oh, I miss that personality), and present are light and open spaces.
Fish remains on the menu, and it gets star billing in an open kitchen. (And this show kitchen really puts on a show!)
And the Seafood and Specialty Boils are the stars of that show.
Alternately, the Swordfish and Mahi Mahi are tasty and safe choices.
Just be warned- entrees are not accompanied by side dishes. If you fail to order anything but a main dish (and if your server does not ask or inform, this is what you will get.
A somewhat sad $42 main dish. This restaurant is not cheap, but the frills are few.
That written, the fish is fresh and superb. Gone is the old-school fish house ambiance, and ushered in is a sleek venue. Service continues to improve, and I will await a full critique until Paddlefish is more established. (I learned my lesson from an early experience at Morimoto Asia; restaurants need to “marinate” a bit before reaching full flavor.)
