You’ve surely read the advice many times before- take a break from the Parks midday, and go back to your hotel for a swim. If you are like our family that never happens. For years and years, It just seemed that once we were immersed in the Park environment, we were there to stay; 100 degrees or not! On a particularly hot day this past August, we tried something new…
Relief! |
We spent several hours at the Swan and Dolphin’s Grotto pool and tropical waterfalls before we left for EPCOT. After having lunch (OK, and maybe a cocktail for mom…) poolside at the Cabana Bar and Beach Club, it was time to hit the water slide.
And then more Grotto.
Those several hours were the most peaceful I have ever spent at Walt Disney World. Maybe it was the location; we had never stayed at the Swan and Dolphin Resort before because it seemed a bit removed- almost aloof. This day, that “away from it all” feeling worked! Maybe it was because we intentionally set aside time to relax. Either way, it worked so well we repeated the scene a day later. Summer at Disney- soak it up!!

I'm the same! I think we managed coming back to the hotel midday to relax in the pool only once on our last family trip! The Swan and Dolphin pool looks gorgeous! 😀

We are the same way – we have never taken a mid-day break. For us, we would get too comfy and not want to leave and go back! That grotto does look really nice though!

It looks like you had so much fun! Great idea!! Hope you're having a magical day!!

I wish more people would discover the joy of taking a swim break….they would enjoy their times in the parks so much more.

Hi Manda- YES! I'm so glad we gave the Swan a chance. It really was beautiful!

Hi Chef in Training,
So nice to meet you! I will certainly head your way too 😀

Amanda, you are sooo right. It was a bit tough to get off my lounge chair (and put down that pina colada…)!

Hi Donna, It was a different kind of Disney fun, but very worth it! 😀

Hi Jill, Now that the family is getting older, we are less inclined to do the "commando" thing. When they were younger, we had no choice!!

Hi Disney on Wheels,
I just got in from the BBQ (thermometer says 99). Oh, to have a waterfall nearby…! :DM

I would love to take a dip in that pool sometime.
We have a hard time incorporating pool and water park time into our vacations too. I really think we're going to have to lengthen our stays so we can relax more.

That looks really nice, I have stayed at the BWI and BV and always walked that area but never walked over to that pool area. I love the grotto/ waterfall theme.
I agree pool time is essential to a fun WDW vacation!

Hi dizzneemomma!
Did you get any pool time on your last trip? I find that, in general, NO Disney vacation is long enough!!
Beth Green says
so fun and refreshing! I would love to have that in my backyard for these HOT summer days in Alabama!!!
blogging says
Mary,
Isn't it amazing what is hidden behind every corner at WDW? We'd visited the restaurants at the Swan/Dolphin many times, but never saw the pool areas out back- and there are 3 of them!!
blogging says
Beth, It was 99 and humid as heck in NY today. I can't even imagine what Alabama was like!! When I get my Tink powers, I'll be sure to get you that waterfall!! 😀

Hey Distherapy! Hadn't caught your posts for a while and found this one…yes, yes, yes! We are huge pool break peeps :). I usually even go so far as to build a whole resort day into the schedule…but we usually still hit a park at some point. PS. I'm a NY'er too :). LI….waaaaay out towards the North Fork!
blogging says
Hi Mrs. Mommy MouseEars, I DID NOT KNOW YOU WERE A LONG ISLANDER TOO! We are in Nassau, so we are not far away :D. I agree, some resorts deserve a day to themselves (especially the Yacht and Beach Clubs- when we stay there, we pretend we are doing a water park day!!).
