While wine is labeled as the star at this newly-opened Disney Springs establishment, what lies beneath the varietals is the true star of this show. It is the Disney legend behind the novel adult meeting spot that deserves the spotlight. This connoisseur of the Walt Disney World story is the award-winning reason to visit Wine Bar George.
George is What Makes Wine Bar George Unique
It is none other than native Floridian and Master Sommelier George Miliotes that makes Wine Bar George SO magical. As the lead in the team that opened Walt Disney World’s California Grill in 1995, he is one of just 249 with that distinguished title worldwide. Since leaving the California Grill in 2002, he has lent his creative force to seasons 52 and The Capital Grill. Luckily for his fans, Disney Parks wooed him back to join other celebrity chefs at Disney Springs. Believing that, in true Disney style every wine tells a story, he and his passionate staff are eager to share every savory tidbit with Guests.
Located around the corner from the well-known Raglan Road at The Landing, this 210-seat wine bar evokes vibes from wine making country; Using simple, earthy materials, the establishment offers several settings for gathering; its two bars, high top tables, comfy couches, large group tables, and an outdoor wrap-around terrace. Take your pick and belly up!
Wine Bar George offers 135 international wines; 42 served on tap by the ounce or glass, and others by the bottle. (Imagine tasting that coveted, all-important wine for anywhere from $15 to $75 an ounce!)
With varietals for every taste, food-airing, and price point, George’s personally-trained staff is eager to educate Guests on the wines and vineyards they showcase.
And what originated as a “what if” has become a star in its own right- the much-hyped Frosé is as good as you’ve heard. The frozen drink that elevates the popular rosé to something cool and sweet. Mmmmmm.
Keep an eye open for future special events with other famous winemakers and stars of the industry.
Together with Executive Chef Ron Rupert (also formerly part of the original California Grill team), an informal menu comprised of family-style platters and small plates was created to complement the wine experience. Local farms and products will be regularly featured seasonally. The plates we sampled, shown above were spectacular; that polenta might just have been the best I’ve ever tasted!! And although my hubby’s restaurant serves a skirt steak that Zagat’s deemed “the best on the planet,” our steak platter was devoured. The skirt steak was expertly grilled and beautifully complemented by the red wine George choose for us- a 2016 Triton Tempranillo from Toro, Spain. ¡Delicioso!
Be sure not to overlook dessert, as the Key Lime Pie was a sensation. If you have not had the opportunity to pair a dessert wine with your sweets, this is the destination to become educated.
Wine Bar George is open 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday, and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday. Currently, Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club members can enjoy a 10% discount.
Looking to dine al fresco at Disney Springs? The Basket at Wine Bar George serves European-style sandwiches, cheese, hummus, charcuterie, and wines on tap (served to-go by the glass or carafe), Frosé to go, picnic baskets, as well as that Rose All Day Cookie!
