Little Mikey steals a kiss from his brother’s girl- mighty! What a Goonie cutie.
Rudy, the true story of a Notre Dame football player who, against all odds, dresses for one solitary game. Not only does he take the field, he is subsequently carried off as a hero. Though diminutive in size he was mighty in will. Such grace!
Somewhere in Corral F, awaiting the start of the Disneyland Half Marathon, weaves a lone figure making his way to what I assume is Corral A. In the most unassuming manner, his “excuse me, pardon me” parts the crowd more effectively than any bull horn. He could have no doubt gotten a VIP escort to the runDisney Starting Line, but didn’t. The founder of #Run3rd, (dedicating your races for others), the well-known movie star chose another path. What a guy!!
When I read that bloggers were needed to promote a Sean Astin project, I stopped reading and sent off my immediate reply. ME! (There is promise of a small thank you gift, but I barely read that.) Starstruck? No. Impressed with the depth and the quality of the man? Yes. As I subsequently researched the details of his newest venture I was intrigued. Sean was talking politics. I am quietly a politics junkie. My son Devin is majoring in Government at Georgetown University because he was raised on politics. Do I blog about it? I do not, mainly because I often find political discourse divisive; to be blunt, politics can be polarizing and downright ugly. Leave it to Sean to have a novel approach: might through grace:
Sean Astin – actor from Goonies, Lord of the Rings, Rudy – is beginning Season 2 of his political radio show for “the occasionally interested people” on May 1st on a new network, TradioV. His interest in politics and representing the people’s voice is infectious, and he genuinely wants people to understand what is happening with the government, even when it seems too complicated. Whether you are or aren’t interested in politics, he offers an intellectual discussion and doesn’t just want to be heard, he wants to hear the people and their concerns, all while keeping it civil.
That word “civil” sealed it for me. I can come out of my closet in this new safe zone. Might through grace. Vox populi is Latin for “voice of the people”, but can also be translated as “tone of the people” I believe civility must rule any exchange of ideas, and a respectful tone will be the antidote to political apathy. I can’t wait to tell my son- we have a new home!! In our current demographic, (New York, Vermont, Washington, D.C.), we have difficulty discussing our traditional values without being judged. Or worse! How nice it will be to have a place to #RaiseYourVox free of consternation!! I can’t wait to tune in to Sean’s broadcast on Vox Populi Radio every Thursday, 12-2 PT on TradioV.com.
How about YOU, the people??
Find your voice in the civil discussion @HostVoxPopuli, Facebook and YouTube. In Sean we trust!
Party with us Saturday night!
Hi There! I'm Diane says
Very interesting – I love the name Voice of the People – great idea

Hi Diane! I love Sean's non-threatening approach to politics. We need more of that in the USA!!!

Gosh, you encapsulated his radio show and purpose so spectacularly. And I adore how you wrote this with such wonderful visuals to start. You make me even more excited, thank you!!

Thank you for your wonderful words Lisa. I enjoyed last night's Twitter Chat so much; now I'm really stoked for May 1st!!
Lorelei Ketcherside says
Wow. That sounds perfect! I need to check it out. Thanks for sharing Sean's new show.

I know I'll be listening in with bells on Lori!

This even has me excited, and I am faaaar from a political voice. I typically try to avoid politics at all costs, primarily because my traditional views are usually not shared by others in the theatre field, even in Texas.
It doesn't hurt that I've always loved Sean Astin. 🙂

Boy, I completely understand Lin- both of my boys are involved in the arts, and it often is a lonely place for them. I love the accepting tone that Sean is hoping to strike; now we just need folks of all opinions to come together, hear and listen!!
Disney Day by Day says
Sounds like a great show, unfortunately I wasn't able to party on Sat night. I met Sean when he was filming Rudy at my high school. Great guy.

You're kidding! I bet he would love to hear that Sean. (Maybe you can call into his radio show and tell him!)
Cindy Howell says
It's so nice to hear that a child star has grown into a kind, well-grounded adult! I wish that happened more often.
blogging says
I hadn't thought about that aspect Cindy, but you are so right. I have even more respect for him now!
Lisa Cameron says
You are right. Politics can be so polarizing. It's about time we all come together, instead of choosing sides, for the common good. Maybe this will be the vehicle to get that discussion started.
blogging says
It certainly can't hurt, right Lisa?! And I think Sean's non-threatening approach is a perfect vehicle for change!
Deb @ Focused on the Magic says
I'm a political junkie too and this sounds like it's just what we all need. Bringing people together for civilized discussions and with Sean's talents as an orator, it should be awesome.

After seeing "Mom's Night Out" I believe I'm going to like what Sean has to say. Can't wait!
